When the City of Savannah required increased
application and database programming support, but could not hire additional
personnel, it called on PST to provide expert supplementary development
resources.
Agency Overview
The City of Savannah employs approximately 2,000 workers and serves a
population of over 150,000. The City provides all standard municipal services
in addition to supporting tourism for the area.
Business Challenge
When two of six software/database developers left the City for employment
elsewhere, the City decided not
to rehire two more employees. However, there were several application and
database projects still in development (most notably restructure of an
automation application for Recorder's [Municipal] Court), and others (such as
the 311 system) required ongoing maintenance/upgrade.
Solution
City IT mangement saw the need to outsource some of its application and
database development effort. PST provided developer support for creating,
deploying, and maintaining, and troubleshooting applications and
databases. In addition, PST’s training staff provided programming and
database training for the four remaining City developers.
Benefits
-
Existing IT staff could continue with daily work.
-
Steady progress toward project deadlines.
-
Predictable labor pool.
-
Trained, capable developers.
